Manilla Road are a Witchita, Kansas based metal band that started out way back in 1977. Mark Shelton, on guitar and vocals, founded the band with a few high school buddies and after playing in the local bar scene for a bit, they managed to get traction and release their first album, titled Invasion, in 1980.

The Keep It True Festival is hosting a special Mark Shelton Tribute show this Friday(April 26). It will feature the members of Manilla Road (Bryan “Hellroadie” Patrick on vocals, Andreas “Neudi” Neuderth on drums, and Phil Ross on bass) playing with various friends and musicians influenced by Manilla Road, as well as former members Randy “Thrasher” Foxe and Rick Fisher. Ben Munkirs and Shelton came up with the name Manilla Road while drinking one night at the kitchen table watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus.For some reason, to them, it meant the Road of Light. Contrary to popular belief, Manilla Road was only split up between 1992-1994.
